Jo Koy wants to open more doors for Filipinos in Hollywood

Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy promised that he will do more movie projects that will highlight Filipinos.

Jo or Joseph Glenn Herbert, Sr. has been incorporating Filipino culture in his acts on various stages in the U.S. His humor always has a Pinoy flavor but it is also relatable to other cultures and races. This is probably the reason why he is so successful in this field.

In a recent interview for his movie Easter Sunday that highlights Filipinos and Asians as well, , based on the article in GMA Entertainment, Jo mentioned how difficult it was for other races to penetrate Hollywood.

There are no offers to Filipinos, instead pitches needed to be made and after that everything will be left to hope that there will be someone who is willing to finance the project.

If you’re Filipino, there are no offers, so you got to create an idea. You got to come up with a pitch and figure out a story that they’re willing to back and then it still has to make sense because it’s a business, right?” Jo Koy said.

With this, the Fil-Am stand-up comic said that he wants to work behind the camera and create more characters that are unique and feature different races. He does not want the idea that Filipinos are stereotyped to a certain role, like if it is a nurse, it should be a Filipino. Jo said that Filipino actos can also be a CEO of a company or a top singer.

He said that he wants to create and produce more. Jo also thinks that it is a good idea to bring a Filipino film to Hollywood. “So yes, I promise you I’m making more,” Jo Koy said.

Easter Sunday is now showing in the Philippines. This movie that features Filipino actors is directed by Jay Chandrasekhar and written by Ken Cheng and Kate Angelo.
