Department Of Education: 70+ Private Schools In Region 6 Closed

Over 70 private schools have closed down according to the Department Of Education in Western Visayas.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION – Here’s a breakdown of the permanently closed private schools in Region 6.

The Philippines is one of the world’s longest shutdowns during the pandemic and just recently, after two years, the school officially reopened for face-to-face classes. Millions of students returned to primary and secondary schools. In a previous article, a shortage of school equipment and classrooms will not hinder the opening of classes.

And amid the bounce back, at least 860 out of 14,000 private schools in the country have closed down permanently – 85 percent were Catholic-run. This did not affect thousands of students but also affected thousands of teachers.

In the Western Visayas alone, a total of 76 private schools have closed down permanently where 56 of which closed down temporarily while 17 closed permanently.

  • Silay City – 9
  • Antique – 9
  • Capiz – 7
  • Negros Occidental – 7
  • Aklan – 6
  • Bacolod – 6
  • San Carlos City – 4
  • Passi City, Guimaras – 3
  • Iloilo City – 1
  • Bago City – 1
  • Cadiz City – 1
  • Kabankakan City – 1

DepEd, on the other hand, prepared for a blended type of learning for this academic year amid the ongoing pandemic.

Consequently, as part of the transition to in-person classes, blended learning shall still be implemented and we are continuing to study the implementation of blended learning as a permanent mode of instruction for basic education,” VP Sara Duterte said.

The vice president is the department’s new secretary appointed by President Bongbong Marcos, her running mate during the May 2022 elections.
