School Supplies Prices Increase; DepEd Calls for Private Donations

DepEd Speaks on Donors amid High School Supplies Prices as Opening of Classes Draws Near

SCHOOL SUPPLIES PRICES – The Department of Education is calling for private donations amid the high costs of school supplies now.

The opening of the school year 2022-2023 is drawing near. The Department of Education (DepEd) previously released an order declaring the start of the next academic year on August 22. Blended learning will still be implemented in schools.

Based on the order released by the education department, schools may implement blended learning until October 31. By November, schools are mandated to resume the face-to-face classes which were halted amid the COVID-19 pandemic for the safety of the students.

Under blended learning, the delivery of instructions and lessons are taking place through online classes and modules. Following the order of DepEd, a lot of parents are preparing the school supplies for their children.

However, the high school supplies prices now are financially challenging for a lot of parents. On the part of some sellers, they explained that their suppliers also implemented an increase in the costs of notebooks, pad papers, crayons, etc.

Amid the high school supplies prices, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Department of Education (DepEd) is calling to the private sector for donations to help the students who cannot really afford to buy the things they will be needing in school.

Based on the report, donations can be given to schools during the Brigada Eskwela which runs until August 26. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently expressed that they will be reviewing the suggested retail prices (SRPs) for the school supplies.

DTI cited that the current SRP is helpful to the consumers but they lack further details like the specification of the items and the quality. The Department hopes to provide the consumers a more detailed guide on the school supplies but has yet to reveal the target date of the release of an updated SRP. More updates may be posted soon.
