Pinoy fans expected Lea Salonga to sing a Tagalog song in her US concert
Broadway diva Lea Salonga has received mixed reactions from netizens regarding her repertoire in her recent concerts in the States.
Lea is known for her capacity to entertain her audience wherever she is in the world. She has already done plays and concerts in different countries and her success is something that would inspire her fellow Filipino artists to dream big as well and they could reach what she has reached as well.
However, the applause was not only the reaction she got from the audience in her recent concerts. Screenshots posted on a popular showbiz site showed that there were Filipinos who were dismayed that Lea did not sing a single Filipino song in her concerts.
One screenshot showed the “frustrated audience of Lea Salonga.” It is because they were expecting her to sing a Tagalog song. The post stated that she was booed. Screenshots of comments on Facebook showed the mixed reactions of netizens regarding this matter.
There were those who said that people who shared negative reactions to Lea’s repertoire with no Tagalog song should go to a different concert. Some netizens insisted that she could have included one or two Filipino songs. On the other hand, there were many netizens who defended the Broadway diva. Some netizens even pointed out that Lea’s fellow Pinoys were the ones who brought her down when they did not get what they expected from her.
Meanwhile, in a recent article by Lea Salonga in her Inquirer column, she expressed happiness for having the chance to perform again at the Royal Albert Hall. The first performance that she did in the said venue was 27 years ago when she played Eponine in the 10th-anniversary concert of Les Misérables.
