Details about Earthquake Today w/ Abra as Epicenter of Shaking
EARTHQUAKE TODAY EPICENTER – A 4.7 magnitude quake hit Abra following a 7.3 magnitude earthquake that occurred earlier.
Several authorities claim that earthquakes are among the natural events that can hardly be predicted. Forecasts can’t really tell when an earthquake can occur and the strength of its intensity. Thus, an earthquake drill is usually one of the preparations conducted most especially in schools and workplaces to keep people ready.
Recently, a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 hit Abra province. The shaking was felt even in some areas in Metro Manila. Damages due to the quake were reported.
The earthquake today with Abra as the epicenter was followed by several aftershocks that hit the province. Recently, a 4.7 magnitude quake was recorded in Tayum.
Based on the bulletin released by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the official agency that monitors the quake events in the country, a 4.7 magnitude earthquake today with Abra as the epicenter followed the 7.3 magnitude quake earlier and Intensity V was felt in Bucay.
The 4.7 quake was located at 17.60°North, 120.62°East – 004 km South 59° West of Tayum. It has a depth of focus of 001 kilometers with a tectonic origin.
According to Phivolcs, Bucay, Abra felt a strong shaking considered to be Intensity V while the following instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:
- Intensity II
- Taytay, Rizal
- Intensity I
- Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
- Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte
- Peñablanca, Cagayan
- Gonzaga, Cagayan
