The suspect of the Ateneo shooting incident had this claim
Physician Chao-Tiao Yumol, identified as the Ateneo shooting incident suspect, accused victim Rose Furigay, former Lamitan Mayor, of being a drug lord.
The commencement exercise of the Ateneo de Manila School of Law on July 24 was filled with trauma as Yumol reportedly started firing an hour before the ceremony started. Due to the shooting incident, the graduation rite was canceled.
Aside from Furigay, her executive assistant and a security guard were also killed while two others were injured, including the former Mayor’s daughter Hannah Rose. In a report from One News PH, the 38-year-old physician apparently planned his attack. Yumol has filed several complaints against Furigay.
The physician is currently in the custody of the Quezon City Police. He was captured after the chase that ended on Aurora Boulevard, just near Gate 3 of ADMU. In an interview, Yumol accused the former Mayor of Lamitan of being involved in illegal substances.
“The drug situation in Basilan is really bad, even the 13-year-olds are doing drugs. They are really the drug lords of Basilan,” the Ateneo shooting incident suspect claimed. He also accused Furigay’s family of being the one behind three ambush attempts on his life.
“I hope [the Furigay family] use the money they gained from selling drugs in our province. You destroyed the lives of children in the province,” the physician also said. He also asked President Bongbong Marcos to impose the drug war in Mindanao as he claimed that the drug problem in Basilan is “extreme.”
Yumol stressed that he has submitted pieces of evidence from court and Camp Crame to support his claim that Furigay is a drug lord. However, the suspect said that a lot of judges are rallying behind the former Lamitan Mayor.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) assured the public that the Ateneo shooting incident is an isolated case and that it does not reflect the general peace and order situation in the country.
