8 Alleged Posers Arrested Over Extortion Charges, Laguna Police Says

Laguna police arrested eight individuals posing as press for allegedly extorting money from a funfair owner.

On Tuesday (July 19, 2022), eight alleged posers have been arrested in Calamba City after extorting money from a funfair owner. The suspects allegedly introduced themselves as media personnel.

According to the police authorities, the arrested individuals were the same personalities who allegedly send misleading information to the Philippine National Police’s E-Sumbong and InfoText platforms.

“These culprits are seemingly the same persons who are sending us [false information] thru social media and our hotline numbers. We have started to launch operations to address these concerns,” Laguna police chief Police Colonel Cecilio Ison Jr. said.

The posers have been identified as:

  • Anne Cortez
  • Eric Florez Floro
  • Rose Marie Malazarte
  • Benjamin Olino Javier Jr.
  • Theresa Dela Cruz Regaza
  • Christoper Angeles Yu
  • Efren Dela Cruz Regaza
  • Rodamy Llamazares Prado

The police officers reported that the suspects allegedly demand P8, 000 weekly payment as “protection money” from the funfair owner. The suspects allegedly threatened to close the establishment if the victim refused.

The cops also recovered several fake identification cards and money from the suspects, which allegedly came from extortion. The police force will continue to investigate the incident, according to Ison.

“This is a rising concern which we must address to halt the modus operandi of these persons who are roaming around funfair business establishments to extort money in exchange for ‘the continuity of the business operations,” Ison said.
