Vice President Sara Duterte says students are not required to wear uniforms for the next school year.
SARA DUTERTE – Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte school uniforms will not be required for School Year 2022 to 2023.
The face-to-face classes resumption has been allowed two years after the humps the education department in our country has faced due to the onset of the pandemic. And as the opening of classes is fast approaching, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte issued a directive indicating that the wearing of school uniforms will not be a requirement anymore.
Students will be given the freedom to wear clothes they would want to wear because she sees that uniforms are just an additional burden on parents. Her directive as the new Education Secretary is for parents to avoid additional expenses.
Duterte said, keeping the status quo based on a report from Inquirer:
“Even before the pandemic, it is not a strict requirement for public schools to wear uniforms to avoid incurring additional costs to the families of our learners All the more that it will not be required this School Year given the increasing prices and economic losses due to the pandemic.”
Meanwhile, the opening of classes for School Year 2022-2023 will be on August 22 and this has been approved already by President Bongbong Marcos.
A combination of face-to-face classes and distance learning will be practiced from August until October 31 and the full face-to-face will start on November 2. The vice president expressed that this can now be safely done since schools are strictly following health protocols and COVID-19 vaccines and medicines are readily available.
