Alleged Member of Maute Group Surrenders in Marawi City, According to PNP
The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that an alleged member of Maute group has surrendered in Marawi City.
On Thursday (June 30, 2022), PNP said that an alleged member of the Daulah Islamiya-Maute terror group operating in Lanao Del Sur surrendered. The alleged member has been identified as Jalanie “Abu Jana” Ali.
Jalanie reportedly surrendered to the police in Barangay Damah, Marawi City. Magolayan private armed group member Banto Ditopor accompanied the alleged terrorist member to surrender.
Ali and Ditopor have surrendered their firearms including an M16 rifle, a Thompson submachine gun, and assorted rounds of ammunition, according to BAR in Muslim Mindanao regional police officer-in-charge Lt. Eirene Mazon.
“Sila po mismo ay may kagustuhang mag surrender kasama ang kanilang high powered firearms,” Mazon said.
The authorities turned over the recovered firearms and ammunition to the Provincial Field Unit, Crime Laboratory in Lanao Del Sur. The two are set to return to their community after being delisted from their groups.
“Ibig sabihin po, ang PNP na mismo ang mag process [ng delisting] para matanggal na sila sa listahan ng mga private armed groups at local na terorista at makapamuhay na ng matiwasay [sa] kanilang community,” Mazon added.
Maute is an Islamic State of Lanao led by Omar Maute together with members of the former Moro Islamic Liberation Front guerrillas. The group is also responsible for causing terror and massive chaos in Marawi City last 2017.
However, the Philippines government and Armed Forces of the Philippines were able to stop the battle in Marawi.
