Local Fisherman Caught Giant Lapu-Lapu Fish in Antique
SEBASTE, ANTIQUE – A local fisherman from Antique was able to catch a giant lapu-lapu fish or known as ‘grouper’.
A Facebook user named Reah Vego Davidson has shared the video footage of a giant lapu-lapu fish or known as ‘grouper’ caught by a fisherman in Sebaste, Antique. The video garnered various reactions from the online community.
According to Reah, her nephew Rex Vego Jr. and other locals in the area were carrying a giant fish using bamboo poles last Saturday (June 25, 2022). Rex found the giant fish upon checking the net he cast into the sea.
Initially, the local fisherman thought that he caught a game fish but was surprised after he saw a huge grouper on his net. The Lapu-lapu reportedly weighs 187 kilograms. It took five hours before a few people lift the net.
“Around 12 noon nung mapansin ng pamangkin ko na may huli ’yung baits niya. Daily routine na po na during night time ay humuhuli po siya ng isdang marot or galunggong para ipain sa madaling araw sa kanyang bingwit or hook at itali sa balsa… So nung napansin niya na may kumain sa pain nya ay sinikap nya pong iahon ito ngunit hindi po nya kinaya kasi lumalaban po ‘yung catch niya,” Reah said.
