Another Giant Fish Found By Fishermen In Puerto Princesa Palawan

Another giant fish was caught by the fishermen in Brgy. Manalo, Puerto Princesa City in Palawan last Tuesday (February 27, 2017).

Residents of Puerto Princesa in Palawan mobbed when a giant fish was accidentally caught by the fishermen, while they are fishing in the midst of the sea. The giant fish was allegedly weighing 130 kilograms.

The giant fish was identified as “Lapu-Lapu” or “Grouper.” According to Nelbeth Valencia, her husband went to the mid sea to catch crabs, but they were surprised with the big fish caught in their nets.

At first, the fishermen thought that it was only a “Pagi” or “Stingray,” but they were shocked that it was a giant grouper. When they return to their area, it took 4 people to lift and move the giant fish toward the shore.

As seen on the photo taken by John Martinez, the giant grouper caught in Brgy. Manalo was big as a boat. Valencia family considered the giant fish as a blessing, so they immediately brought it to Puerto Princesa for selling.

Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) said that the giant fish caught by fishermen could be possibly a ‘Brown marble grouper’, which grows up to 1 to 2.5 meters. It also belongs to the ‘economically important species’.
