EDILBERTO TIEMPO BIOGRAPHY -This is the life story of Edilberto Tiempo, some of his famous works and achievements as a writer.

Fiction-writer and literary critic, Edilberto Tiempo was born in Maasin, Philippines, in 1913. In 1940, he became a part of the English Department of Silliman University in Dumaguete City. In the same institution, he was a student and became the editor of the student paper.

He got his M.F.A. from the University of Iowa in 1946. He was also a Guggenheim Fellow and he was studying Literary Criticism at the University of Denver where he was able to obtain his Ph.D. in English in 1958.

Edith Lopez Tiempo, a poet, critic, and novelist, was his wife. Together, they studied with Paul Engle in the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. They spent four years studying literature and creative writing and when they returned to the country in 19622, they founded the Silliman National Writers Workshop –  the longest-running annual writers’ workshop in Asia.

Cultural Center of the Philippines Prize, Palanca Awards, the National Book Award, and U.P. Golden Anniversary Literary Contest are just a few award-giving bodies that honored him and his creations.
