BUGOY CARINO – Former child star Bugoy Carino opens up about his life and experiences then and now as a father.
In 2018, rumors about Goin’ Bulilit alum Bugoy Carino impregnating volleyball star EJ Laure emerged online. At that time, the actor was silent. He did not confirm anything. But in 2020, based on a previous article, he finally and formally introduced them – his baby Scarlet and his partner EJ.
They shrugged off the negative comments and all that mattered to them is their happiness and reality. And just recently, in a vlog interview with Karen Davila, he opened up about his life, struggles, and tough experiences as “batang ama”.
He had Scarlet at the age of 16 and at that time, EJ was already 21. He lost everything. His career which at that moment was already skyrocketing, was put on a halt. He lost his projects, endorsements, and gigs. As young as 16, with a baby coming, and losing everything including his source of income has tested him and challenged him at maximum.
All at once, he faced the rumors, backing, and the rage of their families. But he worked hard to prove something. He shouldered the expenses when she gave birth. Despite the monetary offer of EJ’s team, he insisted on paying for everything because it’s their actions that led them to that situation.
“Opo, kasi sa ABS meron kaming savings kapag minor ka. So, yung savings po na yun, yun po yung pinambayad ko, kasi medyo malaki din po kasi caesarian si EJ, e. Medyo malaki rin po binayaran namin, 300 [thousand] gano’n,” he said.
He then added, “Sabi ko, ako yung tatay, lalaki ako, dapat ako yung magbabayad. Hindi po puwedeng ibang tao kasi ako gumawa niyan, e. Dapat ako rin magpapakahirap sa bayaran, di ba? So okay naman, ako po yung nagbayad talaga.”
Initially, they planned on letting go of the baby for the sake of his career. But knowing that such an act is immorality, he hesitated. He talked to his family and he found strength in the words of his father to him to go on and not push it.
He also thoroughly thought about it and realized that it would have been the “biggest sin” he would ever commit in his life.
