LUIS GATMAITAN BIOGRAPHY – “Tito Dok” Luis Gatmaitan has written children’s stories and this is the story of his life.
“Sandosenang Sapatos” is a famous story written by Luis P. Gatmaitan. This is a short story where readers can get a moral lesson. Apart from writing, he is also a doctor and his knowledge about medical stuff is something he used to incorporate into his stories.
Among his used subjects or themes include people with disabilities, adoptions, senility, coping with death, coping with cancer, childhood diseases, children’s rights, and many others. And his short story Sandosenang Sapatos (A Dozen Pairs of Shoes) earned recognitions from Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards and Catholic Mass Media Awards. He was also recognized by UNICEF and UNESCO.
Some of his works were even translated to Nihonggo, Thai, Mandarin, and Bahasa Indonesia.

The author grew up in Talavera, Nueva Ecija.
Apart from his numerous Palanca Award-winning essays and stories that made him an inductee into the Palanca Hall of Fame in 2005, the other recognitions he received are:

- award from Manila Critics Circle
- award from Philippine Board on Books for Young People Salanga Prize
- Health Today Philippines Magazine’s Ten Pillars of the Philippine Health Care Industry
- 2003 Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of the Philippines
- finalist in the 2004 Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) search
- chaired the Philippine Board On Book For Young People (PBBY) and Kuwentista ng mga Tsikiting (KUTING)
