In the Philippines, one of the associations with a vital role in society is the National Press Club. More commonly called NPC, it is an organization of journalists and was built in October 1952 under the initiative of newspaperman Teodoro Valencia.

Valencia became the 3rd president of the NPC. The professional and social organization has taken an active stand on issues against the freedom of the press in the country. It also took part in pushing for the improvement of journalism in the country.

Several other members of the NPC also had their time to be its president and lead the organization. One of them is former NPC President Alfredo “Fred” Lobo who served as the president of the organization thrice.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Lobo served as the president of NPC from 1995 to 1998. He is known as “Mr. Last Question” during the press conferences held in Malacañang.

However, recently, a sad report about Fred Lobo crossed the surface – the former NPC President was found dead inside the bathroom of his condo unit in Malate. According to the report, the police investigation found that one (1) tenant reported to the security guard about the foul odor from one of the units on the 7th floor of the building.

The security guard checked it the following day and found that the odor was coming from the room of Lobo. Based on the police report, he tried to call the unit owner several times but he was not answering the phone. He and the property manager forcibly opened the door leading to the discovery of the dead body of the former NPC President inside the bathroom.

Investigations on the death of Lobo are now ongoing. His body was brought to a funeral home for “autopsy and safekeeping”. More updates may be posted soon.
