Duterte Speaks to Police, Military as End of his Term Draws Near

Pres. Duterte Wants Police, Military To Continue War Vs. Drugs

DUTERTE – Outgoing President Rodrigo Roa Duterte gave a message to the police and the military as the end of his term draws near.

The term of the current administration is set to end this June 30. A new leader will sit to power and there might be a lot of changes in the government. While there are things that may be stopped, there might also be those that will continue.

As to outgoing Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, one of those that he wants to be continued by the next administration is his admin’s campaign against illegal drugs. It is one of his staunch campaign promises and has been one of the focuses of his administration.

During the campaign period in 2016 when he was just running for president, the former Davao City Mayor promised the Filipinos that he will end the presence of drugs in the country in six (6) months. He is vocal about his desire explaining that drugs destroy the lives of many people most especially the young ones.

However, the first six (6) months of his term passed with drug problems still existing in the country. The President expressed that he might have miscalculated the extent of the problem. It is still present now after almost six (6) years of being in the position.

As the end of his term draws near, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke to the police and the military expressing his desire that they will continue the war against drugs in the country.

The 77-year-old President expressed his continued trust in the police despite some of their erring members being involved in drugs. According to him, there are only a few of them who are erring and he encourages them to stay away from it and from the temptation of money. He expressed his hope that the police and the military will continue serving the country.

“Huwag sana ninyong bitawan ‘yung fervor ninyo sa inyong puso, despite or in spite kung sino ang ano, paalis na ako. Try to maintain your momentum against the drug problem,” the Chief Executive said.

The President will step down on June 30 and it is still unclear if he will be having a post in the Cabinet of the incoming administration. The incoming President has previously affirmed an offer in case the outgoing President wants to have a position but there is still no formal offer made.
