This is the reason why Darryl Yap chose Ruffa Gutierrez for ‘MiM’ movie
Director-writer Darryl Yap revealed the reason why Ruffa Gutierrez was chosen to portray former First Lady Imelda Marcos in the movie Maid in Malacanang.
Direk Darryl shared an update a few days ago saying that Viva Films has approved his movie pitch. He already had a meeting with Viva’s boss Vic del Rosario and Senator Imee Marcos.
The director just recently shared a photo that was taken during the meeting and it showed that Ruffa Gutierrez was chosen to play the Marcos matriarch in the movie. The actress expressed how thankful she is for this opportunity through her social media post showcasing the throwback photos she had with the former First Lady.
In a recent Facebook post that Darryl Yap shared, he reacted to the questions of people why Ruffa was chosen and not other prominent actresses in the Philippine entertainment industry.
Direk Darryl said that he thinks Ruffa will help the audience understand who Imelda really is. “Itong #MiM kasi, ito yung kwento na hindi pa natin naririnig o nakikita— hindi ko kailangang kumanta o magdrama o maging asawa ng pulitiko ang Imelda Marcos sa aking Pelikula… kailangan ko siyang maging natural, makatotohanan at malapit sa realidad,” the director-writer said.
He is also optimistic that Ruffa will pull this off and she will be able to portray well the former First Lady. Then, Direk Darryl said that Ruffa and Imelda are the same in one aspect.
“Parehas kasi sila…Misinterpreted Beauty,” the filmmaker said. He explained that beautiful people tend to be misjudged. There are times that they are judged based on their outside appearance and people assumed their beauty is the only good thing about them.
“Natatabunan ng ganda ang halaga… na minsan, ang isang maganda ay may kwentong mas maganda pa sa kung ano siya sa harap ng madla…isang anak, ina, asawa at isang tao,” Darryl Yap said.
