Incoming Labor Chief To Promote Local Employment over Work Abroad

Incoming Labor Chief Speaks on Plan in Leading DOLE

Incoming labor chief Bienvenido Laguesma revealed that he would make a pitch to promote local employment over overseas work.

The term of the current administration is about to end and several posts will be turned over to the winning candidates in the Elections 2022. After 98% of the votes has been canvassed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the presumptive president is former Senator Bongbong Marcos.

Marcos Jr. ran under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. He secured a huge 16-million lead in the presidential election. Several leaders of other countries have reached out to the presumptive president to congratulate him.

Currently, Marcos Jr. has only named a few with regards to his appointees if he will be seated as the 17th president of the Republic of the Philippines. He wants the incoming labor chief to be Bienvenido Laguesma who accepted the offer.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, incoming labor chief Bienvenido Laguesma wants to make a pitch promoting local employment over overseas employment. He stressed that salaries from working abroad may be bigger but there are rising issues now over overseas employment.

Laguesma stressed that the issues include the “separation of family, too much dependence on foreign remittance, spending more than what you are actually earning, and not saving for the future”. According to him, while he sees the foreign employment providing the remittances needed by the Philippines, he is also looking at the “social costs” that go with it.

The incoming labor chief stressed that his mission is to generate more employment opportunities for the Filipinos so the workers have the option if they want to stay in the country despite not very high salaries but with the chance to enjoy and watch their kids’ growth. He wants Marcos Jr.’s slogan “Bayan Babangon Muli” as DOLE’s framework of governance.
