Pinoy Broadcaster Ramon ‘Mon’ Tulfo Nabbed Over Cyber Libel Charges
MON TULFO – The police authorities have arrested the media personality Ramon ‘Mon’ Tulfo for cyber libel charges.
On Monday (May 17, 2022), the Manila Police District reported that a warrant of arrest has been served against Ramon Tulfo. The arrest warrant has been served after cyber libel charges have been filed against the newspaper columnist.
Tulfo has been arrested around 10:30 am on Wednesday (May 18, 2022). The 75-year-old personality was brought to the office of the Special Mayor’s Reaction Team (SMART) at the Manila City Hall.
The MPD public information office (PIO) said that SMART personnel arrested Tulfo through a warrant issued by Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 24 Presiding Judge Maria Victoria A. Soriano-Villadolid.
Villadolid approved the warrant after the radio broadcaster allegedly violated Section 4 (c) (4) of Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Currently, Mon Tulfo is detained at the MPD headquarters while the complainant’s identity remains hidden.
“That prior to the arrest a certain Atty Lean Cruz, (counsel) for the complainant informed this office about the case and seek police assistance to arrest the accused,” MPD said.
Previously, Tulfo has also faced four counts of libel filed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea in 2019 after accusing former justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II of receiving a cut from the “pastillas” bribery scheme at Manila airport.
In 2020, he also surrendered to the authorities over cyber liber charges filed by 2 regional trial court judges.
