Sara Zimmerman Duterte-Carpio commonly known as Inday Sara is a Pinay lawyer and politician. She is the daughter of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
In a brief statement to the media on Wednesday, presidential frontrunner Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced that he chose his running mate Sara to be the next secretary of DepEd once both of them are elected. “So, I talked to Inday Sara. I asked her if she can take on the job, because being the secretary of education is a very tough job, and she agreed to take it. I think it is because she’s a mother and she wants to make sure that her children are well-trained and well-educated and that’s the best motivation that we can hope for,” he said.
Sara Duterte will be overseeing DepEd responsible for the K-12 curriculum taught to over 27M students. The agency is also trying to improve the quality of education following the country’s poor standing in international learning assessments.

A day after being announced as the next DepEd secretary, Sara Duterte said the country needs a future generation of Pinoy who will advocate for “peace and discipline” in communities.
“Yesterday, the presumptive president and I once again talked about how I could help the country. It was decided that I would work on producing skilled learners with the mindset to realize their full potential as individuals…”
“Our country needs a future generation of patriotic Filipinos that advocate peace and discipline in their respective communities,” she added.
The 43-year-old presumptive vice president admitted that prior to the campaign, she and BBM talked about the Department of National Defense (DND). She did not elaborate on what the talks were about but earlier BBM claimed that Sara wanted to serve as defense chief.
“Before the campaign, we talked about the Department of National Defense. But seeing the way things are at the moment, I expect that people who want to see the new administration to fail will fabricate intrigues about my loyalty and the DND position to break the UniTeam,” Sara said.
“The Uniteam wants a stable Philippines and the most harmonious administration possible,” she added.
