Sanitizer Mistakenly Poured Into Cups, Japanese Athlete Collapsed After Drinking
A Japanese athlete suddenly collapsed and vomited after drinking a hand sanitizer, which was mistakenly poured into the cups.
The Japanese authorities vowed to launch a probe against competition organizers after they mistakenly poured the sanitizer into cups and placed them at a drinks station for the athletes.
The incident happened during a girls’ 5,000-meter walking race in central Japan’s Yamanashi last weekend. The alcohol-based sanitizers have been stored in an unlabeled plastic bottle.
The hand sanitizer has been placed together with plastic bottles containing drinking water in a cardboard box. The sanitizers are used to protect people against COVID-19 since the pandemic started way back in 2020.
One female athlete suddenly collapsed and vomited after drinking the sanitizer. Two other athletes also drink the sanitizer but they were able to spit it out and continue to the game.
Overall, three participants have been rushed to the hospital for proper treatment and medication. The three are currently recuperating at the hospital.
