Helpless Couple in Mandaue City Passed Away After Giant Tree Collapsed
MANDAUE CITY – A couple in Mandaue City have passed away after a huge tree collapsed and fell into their home.
A helpless couple in Mandaue City, Cebu have died after a giant tree suddenly collapsed and fell into their home. The incident wrecked the house and took the lives of the couple sleeping inside their home, according to Mandaue City Fire Office Fire Officer 1 Riel Denura.
The rescuers took a little bit long to recover the body of the victims due to the huge size of the tree. The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) admitted that the tree is already fragile because of its age.
However, CDRRMO explained that they need to undergo the legal process before cutting the tree.
The couple has been identified as Rizalda Giducos, 45-year-old and Benjie Giducos, 43-year-old. The incident happened at Barangay Basak, Mandaue City around 1:00 am on Wednesday (May 4, 2022).
According to the reports, Typhoon Odette slightly uprooted the tree last December 2021. The flooding soften the soil and causes erosion, which leads to a tragic accident.

Aside from the house of Giducos couple, another house has been damaged but no one got injured. Currently, the children of Giducos couple were under the custody of their auntie.
The authorities encouraged the public to report similar incidents to the barangay for immediate action.
