The May 2022 Elections are fast approaching. There are 63 candidates vying for a seat in the Senate in this upcoming poll. One of the is former policeman and Pagsanjan, Laguna Mayor Abner Afuang.
Personal Background:
Abner Labastida Afuang was born on March 22, 1944 in Pagsanjan, Laguna. He is married to Susana Evelyn Banzon Hangad and they have two (2) children, Bill Abner Hangad Afuang and Ablyn Hangad Afuang Tiangco. He is the uncle of Department of the Interior and Local Government Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin Diño.
Afuang graduated from the Police Academy in Fort Bonifacio in 1972. He finished his degree Bachelor of Science in Criminology at the Philippine College of Criminology in 1979. He finished his Special Investigators Basic Training Course at the NBI Academy in 1992.
Accomplishments:
Abner Afuang is a former policeman and agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). In 1998, he ran for the mayoralty race in Pagsanjan, Laguna and won. He served the municipality for three (3) years and is popular for events pushing for the sovereignty of the Philippines and the rights of the Filipinos. He is one of those who participated in the burning of the flags of foreign nations. Aside from being a cop and a government official, he is also a writer. From 2014 to 2016, he wrote for an opinion column “Hataw: Diyaryo ng Bayan”.
