Vice Ganda Shares Sentiments About Social Media Today

“It used to be fun.” – Here’s what Vice Ganda shared about social media nowadays.

VICE GANDA – Kapamilya superstar Vice Ganda speaks about how the once fun and entertaining social media brought negative impacts.

Once upon a time, social media was our source of happiness, fun, laughter, entertainment, and relaxation. However, at present times, social media became the people’s nest to spread hate. Cyberbullying became rampant along with bashing and expressing negative comments about a person. People also developed FOMO or fear of missing out and developed unrealistic expectations to others and to themselves.

And just recently, talking to a contestant whose self-esteem got deeply affected when she encountered a negative comment, Kapamilya star Vice Ganda expressed his sentiments about how social media turned out to be. He can closely relate to the contestant’s experience but the nature of his work demands the use of social media. What he has to do is just be strong.

Ang dumi ng social media. It used to be so fun. Pero ngayon ang daming masasamang tao and social media right now is really very dangerous,” he quipped. He also gave advice to people who cannot handle criticisms to stop using social media to have a peaceful life. He stressed that people must not force themselves to indulge in something that does them no good.

He added, “The more followers you have, mas malaki yung tsansa na maraming makakapasok sa buhay mo at maraming pwedeng magsalita tungkol sayo – maganda man o pangit. Binubuksan mo yung pinto para pagsalitaan ka nila.”

Meanwhile, not everything in social media is negative. It also has positive impacts like virtual communities where people can find the support they need and be connected with others. It can also be used to spread social awareness and kindness and for many people, social media served as their outlet for their creativity.

Social media isn’t bad at all if it is being utilized for good and in a positive manner.
