Vico Sotto reiterates that he will not meddle in national politics
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said that there are many people who are pressuring him to endorse presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2022 elections.
Mayor Vico, as early as November last year, has already received queries regarding the politicians who will have his endorsement. The son of Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes said even before that he will not get involved in national politics even though his uncle Senate President Tito Sotto is running for vice president.
Last week, Sen. Sotto and his running mate Senator Ping had a meeting with the Pasig City Mayor. Once again, Mayor Vico said that there were no endorsement talks that happened.
In a recent report from News5, Mayor Vico Sotto reiterated that he is not going to meddle in national politics. However, he said that there are a lot of people who are expecting him to do so.
“Not everyone will understand my decision. Many people are pressuring me to support a certain presidential candidate or vice presidential candidate,” he said. Mayor Vico added that people should understand where the Pasiguenos came from.
The young local chief executive said that when he assumed the position, he was faced with “mala-sindikatong grupo.” Right now, for Mayor Vico, his mission and the mandate of the people for him is to focus on Pasig. “Hindi ako makikialam sa nasyunal,” he reiterated.
He also said that even before the filing of the certificate of candidacy, he already talked to his party and his family that this is going to be his decision. Behind political and familial ties, Mayor Vico Sotto said that his focus is on Pasig City.
