Sara Duterte had a meet-and-greet with the members of the LGBT community
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said that she is also a part of the LGBT community and here is the reason why she said this.
The presidential candidate of the UniTeam spoke before the LGBT Pilipinas members in Quezon City. Based on the report from Inquirer, the presidential daughter recalled the moment she met a member of the LGBT community during one of her campaign events.
“Sabi niya, ‘Hindi, mahal ka namin dahil mahal mo ang LGBT.’ Sabi ko naman sa kanya, paanong hindi ko ba mamahalin ang LGBT e LGBT din ako?’” Mayor Sara Duterte said.
She explained that when it comes to gender stereotyping, men have short hair while it is expected for women to have long hair. Then, she cited the times when she would cut her hair short.
“Kaya po minsan nakikita ninyo maikli ang buhok ko; gusto ko po maging lalaki nyan. Pag ayaw ko na po maging lalaki, pinapahaba ko po ang aking buhok,” the vice-presidential aspirant said.
However, Inday Sara stressed that she is a straight woman and her gender expression is masculine. “Kaya wag po kayong magtaka, paminsan-minsan mawawala yung buhok ko dahil, pag-short hair sinasabi nila lalaki ako. Pag gusto naman magmukhang babae, pinapahaba ko ang buhok ko,” she said.
During the said event, Mayor Sara Duterte was joined by senatorial candidate Salvador Panelo who serenaded the members of the LGBT community with the song Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas. This did not sit well with Megastar Sharon Cuneta who recorded this song originally.
In his response to the criticism of the singer-actress, Panelo stressed that he has no ill intentions in singing that song as this is his song for his son who had Down Syndrome.
