Karen Davila shared her view on E-Sabong
Seasoned broadcaster Karen Davila reacted to the licenses given to E-Sabong operators but her home network ABS-CBN was ordered to close.
To recall, the Kapamilya network had to stop airing on the free channel because it was not allowed to renew its franchise after it expired two years ago. The effect of this on those working in the giant media company is obvious.
In a recent Twitter post of Karen, based on the article in Balita.net.ph, she slammed the fact that E-Sabong operators got their licenses but her home network was not allowed to have its franchise renewed.
“PRRD’s reponse to the senate reso to temporarily suspend E-SABONG? ITULOY. ‘E-Sabong licensees will remain unaffected. Ang ABS-CBN ipinasara, ang E-Sabong na sugal na nakakasira ng milyong buhay ng Pilipino – ok lang!” Karen Davila said in her tweet.
This Twitter post of the seasoned broadcaster included a memorandum from the Executive Secretary stating that the Philippine National Police (PNP) is directed to investigate the missing “sabungeros” while the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) is ordered to investigate if E-Sabong operators have violated “existing terms of agreement.”
However, the memorandum has stated this: “Unless otherwise directed, the operations of e-sabong licenses shall remain unaffected.”
A netizen reacted to the post of Karen regarding the shutting down of ABS-CBN. “Hmmm Congress yung di nagbigay sa inyo ng franchise, hindi OP,” the netizen said and this received a reply from the broadcaster.
Karen Davila said that although the House of Representatives was the one who ordered the closure of ABS-CBN, she said that President Rodrigo Duterte still has something to do with this.
“Yes, congress gives the franchise but we all know it was w imprimatur of the President. No less than PRRD admitted it during his speech in Jolo the day after (the) franchise was denied, ‘I dismantled the oligarchy without declaring Martial Law,” she said.
