LTFRB Warns Jeepney Drivers Imposing Unofficial Fare Hike

LTFRB Says Minimum Fare Remain at P9 & Warns Jeepney Drivers Imposing Unofficial Fare Hike

LTFRB has warned the jeepney drivers who were implementing unofficial fare hike amid the consecutive oil price increase.

Over the past few days, the Filipino jeepney drivers are experiencing hardships and difficulties due to the big-time pump price hike. Most of them were earning lesser amount rather than their usual income.

Some of the jeepney drivers are observing thriftiness just to save some amount for their family. Several drivers desperately asked the commuters to make the minimum fare P10 but the passengers refused.

The employees under the public transport sector urged the government to listen to their appeal. The transportation sector said that LTFRB has fare adjustment form allowing the fare adjustment based on fuel price hike and maintenance cost.

“Ano pa ang saysay nitong formula, nitong fare adjustment formula na ang sinasabi ditto ay kaya nilang magdesisyon na kahit hindi na kami mag-submit, dahil sila mismo may formula na?” LTOP National President Lando Marquez said.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board announced that the minimum fare hike will remain P9 without the board’s approval. Drivers who will violate the policy will face corresponding sanctions and penalties.

“First offense po ay P5, 000, second offense po ay P10, 000 at impounding of the vehicle. Third and subsequent offense a P15, 000 yung fine niya at posibleng suspendihin po yung prangkisa,” LTFRB Executive Director Kristina Cassion said.

LTFRB understands the hardships of drivers but they need to balance the situation because fare hike may cause increase on prices of basic commodities.
