Mayor Sara Duterte Explains Reason Behind Ban of Campaign Motorcade, Caravan
MAYOR SARA DUTERTE – The presidential daughter and vice-presidential candidate announced that campaign motorcades and caravans are not allowed in Davao City.
The campaign period is currently at its peak in the Philippines. The candidates for May 2022 Elections are busy visiting different cities and provinces across the nation to campaign to as many Filipinos as they can. They take the chances to lay their platforms and visions for the country.
There are 10 presidential candidates for the upcoming election. Debates gathering the senatorial, vice-presidential, and presidential bets were previously held. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is also sponsoring a series of debates.
Aside from watching debates, many Filipinos attend grand rallies. It usually includes campaign motorcades and caravans but vice-presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is not in favor of it in the city.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Mayor Sara Duterte announced that campaign motorcades and caravans are no longer allowed in Davao City. The order came amid a series of oil price hikes in the Philippines.
The prices of oil products in the country are increasing for more than two (2) months now. It was in January 2022 when the first oil price hike was implemented and there is an increase almost every week since then.
Based on the report, aside from the increase in fuel costs, Mayor Sara also cited the inconvenience of traffic jams and the economic losses in the country as part of the reasons why campaign caravans and motorcades are no longer allowed in Davao City.
The prices of oil is expected to continue increasing until May or June according to the Energy authorities. Previously, they cited the shortage of supply with regards to global demand. The current tension between Ukraine and Russia may further affect the prices of oil in the country.
