MMDA Apprehends Habal-Habal Riders for Illegal Operation
The MMDA officers apprehended the habal-habal riders along the road for illegal operation and warned the public regarding its danger.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is an agency of the Republic of the Philippines implementing the planning, monitoring and coordinative functions along the road concerning purely local matters.
The agency covers the cities of Manila, Quezon City, Caloocan, Pasay, Mandaluyong, Makati, Pasig, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Parañaque, Valenzuela, Malabon, Taguig, Navotas and San Juan and the municipality of Pateros.
The Facebook page “Gadget Addict” has shared the video footage of MMDA officers apprehending the habal-habal riders along the road for illegal operation. The video garnered various reactions from the online community.
In the video, several MMDA enforcers apprehended several habal-habal riders along the road for picking up passengers. Habal-habal is considered as an illegal activity for having no permit to operate and pick up passengers.
Most habal-habal drivers were giving ride to commuters in exchange of a certain amount. Some of them have no choice but have no choice but to pick up passengers just to earn money to provide the necessities of their family.
MMDA chief Edison “Bong” Nebrija explained that habal-habal had no insurance and the rider could not be traced anymore once the transaction is done. He also encouraged the Filipino people to get motorcycle taxis wherein passengers are insured.
