Kiko Pangilinan reacted to the accusation that the Leni-Kiko tandem is using the Catholic Church
Senator Kiko Pangilinan, who is running for vice president, denied that he and presidential bet Vice President Leni Robredo are using the Catholic Church for their campaign.
Several instances have occurred already that leaders of the Catholic Church expressed support for the Leni-Kiko tandem. Based on the report from Inquirer published last month that Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) spokesperson Fr. Jerome Secillano reminded priests that they should be “nonpartisan.” “Partisanship implies division. But clerics are supposed to be sources of unity in the community,” he said.
However, it was stated in a previous report that 569 priests and other officials of the Catholic Church pledged their support for the Angat Lahat tandem. Photos also circulated online that posters of the Leni-Kiko were placed inside the church.
The tandem received criticisms from netizens when photos circulated showing that they used the church’s pulpit for their campaign.
Because of this, it is inevitable for critics of VP Leni Robredo and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan to accuse them that they are using the Catholic Church for their campaign. Based on the report from News5, the husband Megastar Sharon Cuneta denied this accusation.
“Doon sa usapin nung ginagamit yung Simbahan, ako naniniwala ang Diyos ang gumagamit sa Simabahan hindi po ang politico,” the vice-presidential aspirant said.
A report from Rappler that was published on March 1, written by Mara Cepeda, was titled with “In fight vs Marcos, Robredo taps Church ‘machinery’ to beat fake news.”
Pero ‘pag nanggaling kasi sa Simbahan, ‘yung influence that you yield on the flock, malaking bagay.”
