Robredo’s Camp Says Debate is Venue for Candidates To Speak Plans – “Hindi siya away”

Camp of Vice Pres. Robredo Speaks on Importance of Debates, Interviews

ROBREDO – The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo stressed that a debate is a venue for candidates to speak their plans and not to quarrel.

Ten (10) candidates for president were left on the official ballot for the May 2022 Election. The campaign period has officially started as well and the presidential bets held their proclamation rallies in different areas. Vice Pres. Leni Robredo, the only female presidential bet who is running as an independent candidate, kicked off her campaign in Naga, Camarines Sur.

The supporters of the Vice President filled the public plaza where her proclamation rally was held. Different activities were prepared and she talked to the public about her plans and vision.

As Election 2022 draws near, interviews featuring the presidential candidates are left and right. Many people get to know the candidates more through the interviews.

Many people also await the presidential debate which is one of the events held every national election in the Philippines. However, there is a huge possibility that the debates may not gather all the candidates for president. The camp of former Senator Bongbong Marcos has previously expressed that they won’t engage in any debate or activity that is meant to spark a fight among the candidates.

On the side of Vice Pres. Leni Robredo, her spokesperson, lawyer Barry Gutierrez, stressed that a debate is not an argument but a venue for the candidates to lay their plans and visions to the public.

“Hindi siya away. It’s a venue for candidate to articulate ano ang kanyang pinaglalaban… magkaroon ang taumbayan na makita na tabi-tabi sila sino ang aangat, may klarong vision sa ating bansa,” he said.

Based on the report, Gutierrez also stressed that a debate is also a venue to see how a candidate performs under pressure. According to him, somebody who avoids pressure and conflict should not be entrusted with the presidency as the position requires facing difficult times.

“Their strategy is keep Bongbong Marcos out of the limelight, don’t get him in a situation where his weakness will show and let’s just do the curated stuff on social media,” Gutierrez expressed.
