Ogie Diaz On Allegation that Celebs Paid Millions To Attend Political Events

The allegation surfaced that celebrities are receiving millions for their talent fee just to attend political events and here is the reaction of comedian-talent manager Ogie Diaz to this.

During the election season, politicians are not the only personalities who are getting the attention of the public. Celebrities are very much visible as well during campaign sorties.

It has been a part of the election season in the Philippines that celebrities would endorse certain politicians. A report from Inquirer stated that the talent fee of celebrities who are joining the campaign sorties ranges from P1 million to as high as P100 million.

Ogie Diaz shared this news report on his Facebook account but contradicted this allegation against celebrities. The comedian-talent manager, as he is also vocal in showing support for his presidential candidate, said that this is “Di naman masyadong true ito.”

He said that there are celebrities who are doing the campaigning for free for politicians who are their relatives or family members. “Kahit hindi nila kaanu-ano, basta naniniwala sila sa ipinaglalaban nito, hindi pinag-uusapan ang magkano,” Ogie added.

The talent manager also shared that some celebrities would spend their own money for the politician they are supporting. “Dahil walang pondo ang kandidato nila, pero naniniwala sila sa kakayahan at sinseridad nito sa mga tao. Yung 100M? Wow! Jackpot ang mga artista pag ganyan. Pero paano mababawi ito?” he said.

Ogie Diaz also shared a tip in order to identify a celebrity who received a huge amount of talent fee. “Check nyo yung pagmumukha ng endorser pag ikinakampanya niya yung kandidato niya, parang napipilitan lang,” he said.

For him, it is still important to show support for a politician who you think would really serve the people without asking something in return.
