Hong Kong Court Convicts Woman For Pet Cat Inside Washing Machine

The Hong Kong court has convicted a woman named Yuki Wong Yee-ting for putting her cat inside a washing machine.

On February last year, the Insurance agent Yuki Wong Yee-ting goes viral after uploading the video footage of her pet cat being left inside a spinning washing machine. She uploaded the video on her Instagram account on February 7 last year.

The cat seems to be distressed and pressed its muzzle against the transparent lid of the top-loading machine. The fur baby was able to leap out from the machine. The video has been depicted as part of “pranks” performed on “the fat girl”.

According to the caption of the video, the cat allegedly defecated where it was not supposed to.

The cat owner told the Tuen Mun Court that her friend was the responsible for the incident and just sent the video to her. She identified her friend as “Yan” who already moved to Britain in 2021.

Wong refused to give the full name of her friend because of the friendship and explained that Yan will be unable to assist in the investigation. The woman explained that she was a cat lover and the video was just only a joke.

On Monday (February 7, 2022), Deputy Magistrate Henry Fung Lim-wai rejects the woman’s claims as her act contradicts her statement. The court will issue the sentence on February 21, 2022 and animal cruelty is punishable by up to three years behind bars.

“Had the defendant really been a cat lover, even if the video’s claim was false, that the cat was not frightened, she should have at least been upset by the perpetrator’s action instead of sharing it with friends as if nothing had happened, I fail to see how the video deserved a peer’s review. There was no merit in sharing the video,” Fung said.
