What’s the role of politics in the network transfer of Willie Revillame?
Rumor has it that politics has something to do with the decision of GMA-7 not to renew its contract with Wowowin host Willie Revillame.
In an official statement, the Kapuso network said that the last airing of Kuya Wil’s game show will be on February 11 as the contract between has expired on the 15th last month. Wowowin, airing for almost 7 years on GMA-7, was co-produced by Willie’s WBR Entertainment Productions Inc. and the Kapuso network.
Prior to this, it was rumored that the show of Willie will transfer to the newly-acquired frequencies of billionaire businessman Manny Villar. It is known to many that the veteran TV host is close to the business tycoon.
Although there have been reports saying that Willie and Manny were seen together just recently, they haven’t released any statement yet regarding this matter.
Veteran entertainment columnist Lolit Solis said in her recent writeup on Instagram that GMA decided not to renew the contract with Willie Revillame. She said that the Kapuso network did not offer anything to the TV host.
Based on the article by entertainment columnist Salve Asis in Pang-masa, it is rumored that politics was involved in this. Many people know that Kuya Wil is vocal when it comes to expressing his support from President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Pinagdududahang may kinalaman ito sa umano’y pagiging identified ni Willie sa mga kaganapan sa pulitika lalo na nga sumasama ito dati sa mga kampanya ng grupo ni President Duterte ayon sa usap-usapan,” the columnist said. Asis also mentioned that it was rumored that the Willie renewed his contract with GMA last year.
However, with the official announcement from GMA, it appeared that there was no renewing of the contract that happened.
