COVID VACCINATION FOR KIDS – The vaccination of children 5-11 years old is set to expand outside the National Capital Region (NCR).

The authorities in the Philippines have given the go signal for the vaccination of the children 5 to 11 years old against the COVID-19. Previously, the Department of Health (DOH) cited that a lot of kids were getting infected by the virus.

It is more than two (2) years now since the pandemic started and the threats are still present. The national government is in pursuit to achieve population protection against the virus through vaccination. The vaccination is now open for the adult population.

With regards to the children, initially, the authorities have set February 4 as the start of the COVID vaccination for kids aged 5-11 in the National Capital Region (NCR). However, the delay in the shipment of the vaccines pushed it further to February 7.

Pfizer came up with a vaccine concentration specifically for kids who are aged 5-11 years old. With regards to the COVID vaccination for kids aged 5-11 outside NCR, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, it is set to start on February 14, 2022.

Previously, there was a petition filed by some parents seeking to declare the vaccination for kids unconstitutional before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court. The authorities stressed that the vaccination will push through despite the petition.

According to DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, the COVID vaccination for kids aged 5-11 is not mandatory and the consent of the parents is required. The children will also be assessed.

Several local government units including the LGUs of Navotas and Malabon are already preparing to make the vaccination sites “child-friendly”. A total of 780,000 Pfizer vaccines for kids are set to arrive in the Philippines.
