Class Suspensions Declared in Central Visayas From January 24 to 31, 2022

WALANG PASOK – The local government units in Central Visayas declared class suspensions from January 24 to 31, 2022.

The Department of Education in the region (DepEd-7) has declared the suspensions of classes in Central Visayas from January 24 until January 31, 2022 due to the rising cases of COVID-19.

Last week, DepED-7 released the Regional Memorandum No. 052-2022 declaring the suspension of classes in areas under Alert Level 3. The class cancellation has been also declared in Typhoon Odette-affected areas.

DepEd-7 director Dr. Salustiano Jimenez signed the memorandum. He also ordered the postponement of submission of academic requirements as well as other teaching-related activities.

“Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the entire Region and the effects of the onslaught of Typhoon Odette, this Office is announcing the suspension of classes in areas under Alert Level 3 within the Region from January 24 to January 31, 2022,” the memo states.

Jimenez said that the cancellation of classes also covers both synchronous and asynchronous. Private schools have been given the discretion to suspend the classes or not.

Previously, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF) placed the entire Central Visayas including Cebu, Negros Oriental, and Bohol under Alert Level 3. Siquijor also joined under the stricter community quarantine status.

The DepEd executive said that the break might be extended but it still depend on the situation.

“It is still dependent on the situation. In our case in Central Visayas, it’s not only COVID that hit us but the typhoon Odette as well,” Jimenez said.
