82-Year-Old Manobo Walks Mountain Road to Get Her 2nd Dose

The 82-year-old lady Manobo named Anatacia Alferez walked through mountain road just to get her second dose.

A senior citizen Manobo walked under the extreme heat of the sun across 6-kilometer stretch of rough and sloping road from her house heading to the vaccination center in the mountainous village of Kinawayan.

The elderly woman walked through the rough road just to get her second dose of vaccine against COVID-19, which is provided by the local government of Arakan in Cotabato province for senior citizens.

Arakan municipal health officer Dr. Karen Canario said Alferez is one of the 1, 000 individuals who got vaccinated in Barangay Kinawayan.

Dr. Karen Canario said that she is struggling to convince the residents to be vaccinated although she has already explained the benefits and protection the vaccine could give against COVID-19.

Alferez expressed her despite to complete her vaccine doses to get protection against the fatal effects of COVID-19. She has been accompanied by her four grandchildren to the village but she had to walk a little bit far on her way home.

“I am used to it. Since I was young, we have been walking from home to school and even to our farm on the other side of the mountain,” Alferez said.

The elderly woman said that eating organic rice and vegetables attribute to her stamina on walking slopes. She loves to eat boiled and grilled tomatoes with fish from the rivers of Kinawayan.
