After consuming a lot of food, it’s either you will experience diarrhea or constipation.

Definitely, among the two that you care to avoid is constipation- which refers to bowel movements that are infrequent or hard to pass.

Fortunately, there are some foods that can help relieve this or make it worse.

Here are some of the foods that can cause this unpleasant condition:

  • Alcohol- It might have a dehydrating effect that may increase the risk of constipation especially when consumed in large amounts.
  • Gluten-containing foods like wheat, barley and to name a few.
  • Processed grains such as white bread, white rice, and white pasta, are lower in fiber and maybe more constipating.
  • Milk and dairy products- They are most common especially to those who are sensitive to the proteins found in cow’s milk.
  • Red meat- It is generally high in fat but low in fiber.
  • Fried or fast foods- They are low in fiber but high in fat and salt.
  • Persimmons- They contain tannins, a type of compound that may promote constipation by slowing digestion.

In summary, this condition is relatively common- which means almost everyone experiences it.

However, in order to avoid this condition, you might consider avoiding or reducing the foods aforementioned.

But if this condition still persists, you may ask your healthcare provider for any recommendation.
