DENR Investigates Sea Water in Davao Oriental After It Turns To Orange
DENR has launched an investigation after the sea water in Banaybanay, Davao Oriental has turned into orange.
Nowadays, environmental pollution has been one of the major problems in various regions all around the world including the Philippines. Pollution does not only destroy the environment but also pose risk to the body’s health.
Different environmental organizations have been calling the public’s attention to avoid littering and maintain the cleanliness on the surroundings. However, there are still a lot of hard-headed and irresponsible individuals who continue to defy the environmental policy.
The Facebook page “One Mindanao” has shared the photos of the sea water discoloration in Banaybanay, Davao Oriental or dubbed as “Orange Sea”. The photos garnered various reactions from the social media users.
In the photos, it can be seen that the sea water located in Barangay Maputi has turned into orange for an unidentified reason. The residents were surprised after seeing the strange phenomenon.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources conduct an assessment and reported that the heavy and incessant rains in the area caused the ‘massive siltation’ resulting into the water coloration.
The agency was still investigating the incident to determine the cause of the water discoloration.
Meanwhile, the residents in the area worry about their livelihood due to the phenomenon. The environmental advocates and residents in the area were suspecting that laterite mining at the nearby town causes the incident.
