The Philippines is once again facing a new spike in the COVID-19 cases. The increase in the cases in several cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) urged the authorities to place the entire Metro Manila under Alert Level 3 from January 3 to January 15, 2022.

Furthermore, several local government units have heightened their restrictions. The mayors in the capital region also agreed to temporarily limit the movements of unvaccinated residents of their cities. The said move is lauded by national government officials who want to extend it nationwide.

Several hospitals in Metro Manila are alarmed by the increase in the cases of COVID-19 following the holiday season. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte recently spoke to the nurses who are members of NPA hoping they can help the country.
