Huwag Puro Liga: Eleazar Urges SK To Address Crimes, Not Just “Paliga”

Eleazar Told SK “Huwag Puro Liga”, Asks To Become Proactive In Addressing Crime

HUWAG PURO LIGA – Former Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said leaders in the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) should play a proactive role in addressing juvenile crime.

For the longest time, “SK” has become synonymous with Liga. Unfortunately, most would agree with this notion. Although, not all SK leaders are like this.

Huwag Puro Liga: Eleazar Urges SK To Address Crimes, Not Just "Paliga"

Still, Eleazar, who’s running for Senator under the tandem of Senator Panfilo Lacson and Senate President Vicente Sotto III said:

Bukod sa mga paliga at iba pang palaro sa barangay, marami pang aktibidad na puwedeng gawin para may mapagkaabalahan ang mga kabataan na maaaring magpaunlad ng kanilang talento at kakayahan

The SK is supposedly a body that represents the youth in local communities. However, some politicians use this as a platform to introduce their children to politics.

Each SK member is included or is represented in a municipal or city SK association. As such, they are deemed part of a provincial SK association. Meanwhile, a barangay’s SK Chairman represents his/her barangay in municipal or city associations.

According to Eleazar, the parents of the children involved in juvenile deliquency should be held responsible. “Kung ma-involve ang isang bata sa krimen, malamang sa malamang ay pinabayaan at hindi sila ginabayan ng tama ng kanilang mga magulang“, said Eleazar.

Based on an article from Inquirer, Eleazar said that his stand on Juvenile Delinquency is part of his platform to “improve and strengthen” the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006. This law aims to give proper education, care, and protection to children who are in conflict with authorities.
