Pope Francis Expresses Closeness to Filipinos, Prays for Odette Victims

Prayer of Pope Francis for Victims of Typhoon Odette

POPE FRANCIS – The Supreme Pontiff expressed his closeness to the Filipinos and prayed for the victims of Typhoon Odette.

Recently, the Philippines was struck by a strong typhoon that brought massive flooding in several areas across the nation. Prior to the entry of Typhoon Odette to the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), preparations were done. The forecast even urged the evacuation of many people living in flood-prone areas prior to Odette’s entry.

Massive preparations were able to prevent a lot of worst scenarios but Odette undeniably has its own strength and left marks. Many families were left homeless by the typhoon. Some were damaged by the massive rain and flood and the strong winds while others were hit by uprooted trees.

A lot of people also lost their source of living because of Odette. Deaths were also recorded due to the said strong typhoon that recently hit several areas in the Philippines.

Pope Francis is one of those who expressed concern over the recent unfortunate happenings in the Philippines. According to the report, the Supreme Pontiff expressed his closeness to the Filipino people and prays that the “Santo Niño will “bring consolation and hope to the families of those most affected” by Typhoon Odette.

In 2015, Pope Francis visited the Philippines and celebrated Mass with the victims of Typhoon Yolanda. It is considered the strongest storm to have hit the country.

Currently, communication lines are still down in several areas across the nation. Several areas are also experiencing a lack of electricity supply for a few days now. Power companies gave estimates on when electricity may be back and some areas may have to wait longer of up to one (1) month.
