Larry Gadon Faces Disbarment Case Due to HIV Claims Against PNoy

Person Living with HIV Files Disbarment Case Against Larry Gadon Over HIV Remarks

A disbarment case was filed against senatorial aspirant Larry Gadon over his HIV remarks against late former president PNoy.

People living with HIV (PLHIVs) filed a disbarment case against the lawyer in June after he implied that late President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III was HIV positive. Gadon, according to PLHIVs, should face “the most severe kind of disciplinary action” since he continues to degrade the noble practice of law via his words and behavior.

Elena Felix and Gem Cabreros, complainants, wrote in a briefer that the court system can help to reduce the HIV epidemic in the country by removing “erring members of the bar.” They cited his “severe misconduct,” including his “blatant” violations of various sections of the Lawyer’s Oath and the Code of Professional Responsibility (CPR).

Gadon was also charged with libel, as well as “other just and equitable reliefs,” according to the respondents. The allegation originated from Gadon’s assertions, made just hours after Aquino died, claiming he was unable to recover from his HIV-related illness.

The late president’s family eventually revealed that kidney illness caused by diabetes was the reason of his death. Gadon’s situation, according to the complainants, is particularly troubling because he is a lawyer who demands the attention and respect of a large number of individuals.

“Instead of defending the oppressed and the marginalized, nothing but invectives, profanity, disrespect, unsubstantiated rumors, and misinformation were repeatedly spewed out by Atty. Gadon,” the complainants said.

“Certainly, this goes beyond any political color. In a democratic space, people are free to criticize their leaders — whether living or dead. One may dislike the former President, but any criticism should be within the bounds of law and should not be made to perpetuate stigma,” they added.
