Navotas Warehouse Workers Rescued from 3 Chinese Bosses Abusing Them in Work

Police authorities rescued workers from a Chinese national boss who allegedly abusing them at a warehouse in Navotas City.

According to the police complaint, the Chinese employer illegally imprisoned the workers, as well as mistreating and underpaying them. The warehouse was raided by members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region, the Department of Labor and Employment, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The raid was conducted out after the fugitives reported about the alleged warehouse of second-hand clothing, often known as ukay-ukay. Workers are required to carry heavy clothing for 12-14 days, according to the report, yet their earnings are insufficient.

They were also detained at the warehouse, according to a worker. Two minor workers were part in the rescue operation, according to the authorities report. Three of their Chinese employers, as well as a trustee, were arrested by police, who rejected the charges.

Meanwhile, Pigcawayan Mayor Jean Dino Roquero is considering bringing a lawsuit against the Philippine Land Bank and his vice mayor. This is in relation to the 316 employees of the Pigcawayan municipal hall who have yet to be paid since the Land Bank branch in Midsayap allegedly refused all of the local government unit’s bank transactions.

Employees were unable to collect their basic wages and 13th month pay as a result. According to the employees, this is the first time the municipality has failed to pay their monthly paychecks on schedule.
