Couple Defrauding Banks Taking Out Almost P3-M Using Fake Documents Arrested
Police authorities arrested a couple for allegedly defrauding banks and taking out almost P3 million using fake documents.
A couple was sentenced to prison after obtaining a loan with forged documents and stealing about P3 million from banks. According to a report, the suspects, Evergreen Ignacio Quitoles and Joan Quitoles were apprehended in their vehicle by members of the National Bureau of Investigation’s Anti-Fraud Division.

The accused were found with P400,000, fake IDs, and a pistol. The couple’s modus operandi, according to the NBI, is to get loans from numerous banks using forged documents such as certificates of employment and manipulated pictures.
The couple’s telephones used for fraud transactions were also seized by the NBI. According to the NBI, banks are passing on verification to loan applicants with simply a phone call due to the pandemic. These individuals took advantage of the banks’ inability to physically conduct credit inquiries.
When credit investigators called the supposed company telephone numbers they offered, the couple answered the phone, according to the NBI. They claim the fake employee is “in good standing,” which means their loan application must be granted.
The couple will be charged with multiple counts of estafa, falsification of public documents, violation of anti-alias law, and illegal possession of firearms. NBI Anti Fraud chief Atty. Palmer Mallari also urges other banks that the couple may have been victimized to file a complaint.
