Philippines To Reopen Borders to Green List Countries
PHILIPPINES – The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) decided to allow the entry of foreign tourists from green list countries.
One of the countries hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic is the Philippines. The said pandemic is going on for more than a year now and the economy is already greatly suffering from its impacts. It affected the lives of almost everyone and as well as both big and small businesses.
The people are urged to abide by the health protocols set by the government and the Department of Health (DOH). These rules include the wearing of a face mask when going outdoors. Aside from the face mask, the face shield is also required in most public establishments except recently when changes took place.
The whole Philippines remain under community quarantine measures. Currently, localized lockdowns mode is being implemented and there are still travelers from abroad that are not allowed entry into the country.
With regards to the travelers from the green list countries, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Philippines will open its border to them. The nations considered part of the green list countries include Indonesia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, Mainland China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to the report, the Palace said that the move to open the borders of the country is part of the efforts of the government to rebuild the economy of the country. The lockdown measures that prohibited the normal operation of businesses have dragged the economy down amid the fight against the pandemic.
Presidential spokesman Karlo Nograles expressed that since the countries that will be allowed entry to the Philippines are green list nations, it means they have high vaccination rates. As of this writing, the tourism department has yet to craft protocols for travelers from green countries.
