Political Party of Former Pres. Gloria Arroyo Considering Pres. Duterte’s Inclusion on their Senatorial Slate

ARROYO – The political party of former Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Lakas-CMD, is eyeing Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte for its senatorial slate in the Election 2022.

Several substitutions for the Election 2022 have taken place before the deadline set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte who has previously announced his retirement from politics is running for senator in the next election.

Previously, the 76-year-old President was nominated by the ruling party, PDP-Laban Cusi wing, for vice president. He accepted the nomination but his mind changed during the filing of the candidacy period.

Instead of the President, it was his former long-time aide and Senator Bong Go who tendered his candidacy for vice president in the Election 2022. Then, the 76-year-old Chief Executive announced that he will retire from politics and just prepare for his defense to the investigation of the International Criminal Court (ICC) over his anti-drugs campaign.

On the last day that substitutions for the Election 2022 is allowed, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte filed his candidacy for senator. He replaced a certain Mona Liza Visorde who was as Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan‘s initial bet.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Lakas-CMD, the political party of former Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, is eyeing to adapt Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte on its senatorial slate. The same political party recently welcomed presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte who is now its vice presidential bet.

Mayor Inday Sara withdrew her candidacy for re-election as Davao City Mayor. Supposedly she will be running for her 3rd term as the Davao City Mayor. She also resigned from her regional political party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago, and joined Lakas-CMD.

Pres. Duterte is disappointed over the vice-presidential candidacy of his daughter citing that she’s leading in surveys for her to run for the 2nd highest position in the government and not for president. The presidential daughter agreed to tandem with former Sen. Bongbong Marcos Jr. who is running for president.
