Duterte Amid Sara-BBM Tandem: “Not Once Have You Heard Me Saying I Will Support Marcos”
SARA-BBM TANDEM – During a recent interview, President Duterte said that he never once mentioned that he would support former Senator Bongbong Marcos.
On Saturday, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio announced that she would be running for Vice President in the 2022 elections. This came as a surprise for her father.
Earlier, Insiders such as Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda said Sara wanted to run for President in 2022. Moreover, former Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Sara topped the polls for the Presidential seat.
“I’m wondering why since she is No. 1 in the surveys, and yet she consented to run only for vice president. She is the one with the highest ratings“, said Duterte during Banat By’s interview.
Currently, supporters of BBM are clamouring for a BBM-Sara tandem. However, Duterte said that he never once showed support for Marcos.
During the interview he said:
“Not once you have heard me saying I will support Marcos. I never said who I will support, whether it’s Marcos or Pacquiao“
Following Sara’s announcement of a Vice-Presidential run, Duterte urged Senator Bong Go to withdraw his candidacy for VP and run for President. Afterward, Duterte said he would run against his own Daughter for the VP seat.
As a response to this move, Sara told her supporters not to interfere with her father’s political party. “Let them resolve the issues within their party“, said Sara.
Sara emphasized that all of what’s happening is simply politics and would not matter in the years that would follow. Additionally, she stressed that what needs to be focused on is the country’s recovery and the people’s welfare amid the pandemic.
