Enchong Dee is facing a cyber libel case
Drivers United for Mass Progress and Equal Rights or DUMPER Representative Claudine Bautista filed a cyber libel case against Kapamilya actor Enchong Dee.
This issue came from the controversial Twitter post of Enchong in which he criticized the Congresswoman for having a “lavish” wedding in Balesin last July amid the pandemic. In his now-deleted tweet, the actor said, “The money for the commuters and drivers went to her wedding. Let’s not prolong this conversation and don’t say otherwise.”
A couple of days later, Enchong deleted that tweet and released a public apology. He admitted that what he posted was inappropriate.
The Congresswoman filed a cyber libel complaint against Enchong Dee at the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Davao Occidental. It was dated August 23, 2021, based on the article in PEP.
Bautista labeled the tweet of the actor “defamatory” and “malicious”. “ENCHONG DEE even went as far as saying that I used public coffers to fund my wedding by categorically saying that ‘The money for commuters and drivers went to her wedding’, to the detriment and injury to my honor and name,” the party list representative said.
The female netizen who posted the tweet that Enchong retweeted is also being sued by the Bautista. For the congresswoman, the actor was not really sorry. “He was not sorry to me and for the damage that he has done. He just wants to deflect, albeit unsuccessfully, this criminal charge against him,” she said.
Claudine Bautista is demanding Enchong Dee to pay moral damages amounting to P500,000,000 and exemplary damages amounting to P500,000,000. She stressed that the public apology was not enough.
As of this writing, the Kapamilya actor has not issued his statement yet regarding the cyber libel case against him.
